Study Labs • All Freshman Engineering students taking ENGR 100, 101, 102, and/or 199 are expected to spend at least 2 hours per week in an approved Study Lab. • The Study Lab attendance grade is reported to Freshman Engineering Faculty to be included as part of the course grade for ENGR 100, 101, 102, and/or 199. • Study Lab attendance is monitored via TutorTrac and is graded as follows:

  3. Tutor trac • TutorTrac is WVU’s system for monitoring time spent in University approved study locations. Each student is responsible for logging in and out of TutorTrac when they enter and leave the study location. • Students are responsible for assuring their study hours are being logged properly. • Logging into TutorTrac: • Success.wvu.edu • Username = Mix username (jsmith2 for example) • Password = WVU Student ID Number (once you have logged in once you can change this)

  4. Study lab exemptions • Students may be exempt from the required study labs via one of two ways: • Students with a 3.5 GPA at the end of the previous semester (attended at WVU) are exempt for the first 8 weeks of the semester. • Students who earn an A average in their math, science, and engineering classes at midterm will be exempt from the week they turn in the proper documentation. • The Study Lab Exemption Via Exams form can be found on the Freshman website as well as inside the Engineering Learning Center. • Athletes may also be exempt from using specific study locations by completing proper documentation noting their athletic study labs.

  5. Out of class experiences • All Freshman Engineering students are required to complete Out of Class Experiences (OCE). No on can be exempt from the OCE requirement. • OCEs represent 5% of the final grade in all Freshman Engineering courses. (ENGR 100, 101, 102, 199)

  6. Types of oce • Department Visitation – Freshman Engineering sponsored visitations of the different engineering majors. • Student Success Seminars – Topics include time management and study skills. • Career Exploration and Planning – Topics include financial planning, career planning, social networking strategies, and more. • Civic Engagement – Encompasses areas related to serving the community and/or University. Attending two student group meetings (with the same student group) will give credit for one (1) OCE. • General OCE – Any engineering related activity that takes place outside of class.

How to find an oce • Visit the Freshman Engineering website • statler.wvu.edu/freshman • Click on “Out of Class Experience” on the left side. • Upcoming events will be listed near the bottom of the page. • Visit the Freshman Engineering Facebook page for the latest updates. • Check the postings throughout the Engineering Learning Center.

OCE REQUIREMENTS • Students in ENGR 199 must attend the following (5 total): • EngineerFEST (Fall only) • Department Visitation (1) • Student Success Seminar (1) • 2 other OCE (3 in Spring) • Students in ENGR 100/101 must attend the following (5 total): • Department Visitation (1) • Career Exploration & Planning (1) • Civic Engagement (1) • Library OCE (for students in ENGR 101) • 1 (or 2 for ENGR 100) other OCE

  9. Oce requirements • Students in ENGR 102 or CHE 102 must attend the following (5 total): • Department Visitation (1) • Career Exploration & Planning (1) • Civic Engagement (1) • 2 other OCEs • If students are taking more than one Freshman Engineering course, “double dipping” is permissible.

  10. OCE ATTENDANCE • OCE attendance for most events is tracked via TutorTrac. Students will need to sign in at the OCE kiosk laptop at the event. • If an OCE kiosk laptop is not setup, students are responsible for obtaining a completion form (via the Freshman website or in the ELC) and collecting the proper signature(s). Forms will only be accepted up to one week after the OCE date. • Students are responsible for reviewing OCE credit. Any inaccuracies need to be brought to the attention of the Michelle Poland. Her office is located within the ELC (G111-A). Issues should be reported in a timely fashion.
