  1. The Texas War for Independence1835-1836 By: Bailey Copelin

  2. In 1835-1836, Texas was not part of the United States yet. It still belonged to Mexico.

  3. Texas was ruled by Mexico but had more Americans then Mexicans.

  4. Mexicans became unhappy due to Americans not changing their culture to become like the Mexicans.

  5. The Americans decided to revolt because they wanted to join America. The war started on October 2, 1835. The leader of the revolt was Stephen Austin.

  6. Mexicans didn’t allow slaves and Americans had brought them to Texas with them. Mexico then passed a law forbidding slaves and they must be freed when they reach 14. Any slave introduced into Mexico by purchase or trade would also be freed.

  7. During the Battle of San Jacinto, Texan commander Sam Houston attacks Santa Anna’s army. There was 900 Texans against 1200 Mexicans.

  8. Texans surprise and capture the whole army in 18 minutes. Only 9 Texans died.

  9. Texas won the war and they thought they would become part of the United States but Andrew Jackson, the president at the time, had an equal amount of states that were pro slaves and con slaves.

  10. Texas became its own country for about one year and it finally became part of the United States.
