Fossil Skulls and Teeth. What is a fossil?. A fossil is any evidence of past life on our earth.
E N D
What is a fossil? • A fossil is any evidence of past life on our earth. • Fossils are very rare. This is because fossils only form under the right circumstances. To become a fossil a plant or animals usually needs to have hard parts, such as bones, teeth, shells, or tough wood. • The animal or plant must also be buried quickly to prevent it from decaying.
Teeth tell us . . . • About diet (What did the animal eat?) • Age (Does it have baby teeth? Are the teeth worn down?) • Health (Does it have cavities? Signs of stress in the animal’s life?)
Investigation! • Compare and contrast the teeth in both the jaw and skull • Draw conclusions about the size of the animal • What might the head have looked like? • What was the diet like?
