Introduction Tanzania Nurses association was established in the country on 29th November 1971 Tanzania Registered Nurses Association (TARENA) 2005 TANNA
Introduction • Currently TANNA has a total of 3,500 members out of 22,000 Enrolled and Registered nurses • The Association has a total of 29 Regional Branches
Vision of TANNA A vibrant reputable association representing all professional nurses advancing their welfare and promoting excellence in nursing health care
Mission of TANNA Advocate for nurses, promote excellence in nursing and influence health policy
PROGRESS AGM conducted as planned in line with leaders forum 600 Nurses participated constructively Nurses survey ----- strategic plan IND international nurses day – commemorated regionally and plans to do at national level made to invite the president of the country
Collaborate with MOH to make exhibitions --- increasing public awareness of Nursing profession and association • Leaders forum done following nurses survey to disseminate the findings and plan with them
Media campaign strategy is in a pipeline started with a workshop involving different stakeholders • Branch visits to see reality in the ground and offer supportive supervision
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING CONTD • TANNA Members matching to the conference hall-Mtwara Teachers college about 2 km during 2010 AGM .

Challenges • Negative public image towards services provided by nurses • Insufficient lobbying skills • Insufficient working tools • Insufficient incentives to retain/attract nurses in their working places particularly in rural areas. • inefficient mechanism to collect annual subscription fees • Lack of database for all members of the association
Our way forward • Strengthen communication in and outside • Visit TANNA branches • To promote collaborative relationships with other groups in Tanzania that relates with effects of the health care. • Protect the rights of nurses particularly the scheme of services • Strengthening TANNA offices administrative personnel’s • Establishing database for nurses • Considering making the association a union
