  3. Introduction Different crude oil qualities in multiple intermediate storage and upgrade facilities Stronger regulations due to increased on-line production and longer transportation routes To meet market quality specifications: Blending with light hydrocarbons (diluent and butane) - 25 to 75 % 22nd Kazakhstan International Oil & Gas Conference 1 - 2 October 2014 3

  4. Introduction • Amount of diluent has to be controlled for various reasons: • Excess of light hydrocarbons will cause cavitation / reduces life times of equipment • Emission of gaseous content needs to be minimized for environmental protection • Price of diluent components may exceed the price of crude oil 1 - 2 October 2014 22nd Kazakhstan International Oil & Gas Conference 4

  5. Introduction Vapor pressure and viscosity are the two key physical properties to be controlled Blending systems need following highlights: 1 - 2 October 2014 22nd Kazakhstan International Oil & Gas Conference 5

  6. Introduction • Solution: • A newly developed automated crude oil, diluent and butane blending technology • Including • On-line vapor pressure and viscosity analyzers (ASTM compliant and/or correlating) • Software and hardware (patented blending system)  Captures significant value, operating flexibility, profit increase 1 - 2 October 2014 22nd Kazakhstan International Oil & Gas Conference 6

  8. BARTEC BENKE systems • Vapor pressure is measured according to the Reid method • Simplified description of the method: • Liquid sample is conditioned to 37.8°C (100°F) • A fixed volume of liquid is expanded at a ratio of 1 : 4 • The resulting pressure is recorded (after reaching the equilibrium) 1 - 2 October 2014 22nd Kazakhstan International Oil & Gas Conference 8

  9. BARTEC BENKE systems • Analyzers operate according to following standards: • ASTM D 5191 Mini Method for Petroleum Products • In addition analyzers are designed to meet the following standards: • ASTM D 323 Reid Method • ASTM D 4953 Dry Method for Gasoline and Gasoline – Oxygenate Blends • ASTM D 5482 Mini Method – Atmospheric • ASTM D 6377 Expansion Method for Crude Oil • ASTM approved correlations from one method to others are available 1 - 2 October 2014 22nd Kazakhstan International Oil & Gas Conference 9

  10. BARTEC BENKE systems 1) Higher viscosities / temperatures on request • RVP analyzer from BARTEC BENKE • ASTM compliant • High precision and maximized performance with optimized assembly of measuring cell • Short reaction times due to integrated temperature control unit • Applicable for high viscous samples (up to 200 cSt1)) • Low sample consumption (3 to 5 liters per hour) • Optional heat tracing available 1 - 2 October 2014 22nd Kazakhstan International Oil & Gas Conference 10

  14. BARTEC BENKE systems • Viscosity is measured acc. to ASTM D445 • Simplified description of the method: • Pre-treated sample is temperature controlled at set pressure and flow • Measuring temperature is pre-set and can be changed to meet target viscosity measuring conditions • Pressure drop across the capillary is measured • A Coriolis mass flow meter measures mass flow and density at the capillary outlet 1 - 2 October 2014 22nd Kazakhstan International Oil & Gas Conference 14

  17. BARTEC BENKE systems • The MGA-nano is designed for gas chromatography analysis of gases and low-boiling petrochemical liquids. • The analysis consists of determining the quality and quantity information on individual components of an unknown sample. • The key part of the analysis is the micro gas chromatography module (GC module for short) based on MEMS technology (micro-electro-mechanical system). • Every GC module is equipped with a specific separating column or separating column circuitry. • A powerful thermal conductivity detector (TCD) with very good detection limits is subsequently used to detect the separated components. • In order to expand the area of application of the MGAnano is equipped with a continuously operated evaporator unit. This allows low-boiling liquids to be evaporated at a preset temperature and under the controlled addition of a carrier gas. 1 - 2 October 2014 22nd Kazakhstan International Oil & Gas Conference 17

  18. BARTEC BENKE systems • This is how it looks in real life • Standardized Electronics 1 - 2 October 2014 22nd Kazakhstan International Oil & Gas Conference 18

  19. BARTEC BENKE systems • Subsystems: Sample Conditioning System (SCS) and Closed Loop Chiller (FKS) • Sample is conditioned prior to entering the analyzer. Pressure, temperature and flow are set. Impurities and water will be removed • Both, RVP-4 and VISC-4 require coolant to guarantee measurement according to ASTM 1 - 2 October 2014 22nd Kazakhstan International Oil & Gas Conference 19
