Georgia Schools of Excellence in Student Achievement • Two schools selected from each of the thirteen congressional districts; one school regardless of grade division from each category. • Top 10% category • Greatest continuous gains category
Criteria • The top-ranking school in the district in the top 10% of schools in Georgia.
Criteria • The school that demonstrates greatest continuous gains in student achievement in reading and mathematics for past three years.
Additional Criteria • Meet AYP for minimum of 3 consecutive years • Meet or exceed state mean scores in Science and Social Studies • Not on the Unsafe School Choice Option list within last two years
Additional Criteria • 100% highly qualified teachers • Minimum of two AP courses offered (HS only) • School must be in existence a minimum of five full years • Schools that have been recognized as a Georgia School of Excellence in the past five years are not eligible to win again UNLESS the only school or schools eligible to receive the honor in a certain district have won within the last five years.
Selection Process • Schools selected based on assessment criteria already at GaDOE • There is no application.
Timeline • August/September– data runs identify the schools • November – State Superintendent announces Schools of Excellence in Student Achievement • January- Celebration of Excellence Banquet in Atlanta
