Pursuing Both Short Term and Stretch Goals • “When building a results-oriented culture, leaders must find a balance between the attainable goals teams feel they can achieve in the short term and stretch goals – goals so ambitious they could not possibly be achieved unless practices within the organization change significantly.”

SMART Goals • Strategic and Specific • Linked to strategic priorities part of a larger vision of success for the entire school district • Measurable • Being able to measure a change in results based on specific actions • Attainable -Within the realm of our influence and control • Results oriented • Define not only what is expected but a desired end point • Time bound • Helps keep achievement of the goal a priority

Schalmont Board of Education Collective Commitments • Develop and promote a strong governance team with the Superintendent and Business Administrator. • Initiate and support the development of a 5-year strategic plan with annual benchmarks to support all students to College and Career Readiness while sustaining fiscal responsibility. 3. Build effective and transparent communication strategies with all internal and external stakeholder groups to maintain unified support for goals and strategic initiatives. • Create and revise policies aligned with the New York State reform agenda and district goals. • Provide a safe and orderly environment for all.

Team Learning Process • Embed collaboration in routine practices of the school with a Focus on Learning • Schedule time for collaboration into the school day and school calendar (see time for collaboration ideas or visit allthingsplc website) • Focus teams on critical questions (the 4 for planbook) • Make products of collaboration explicit(i.e. CFAs) • Establish team norms to guide collaboration

  14. Basics of Effective Teams • Use Chapter 3- send out to teachers ahead both electronically and hard copy • Decide the who, what , why and how by teams • Recommend keeping materials in folders/binders- will be on the STI website consistently as well

Timetable for PLC • Sept 4 - PLC presentation #1: Building Shared Knowledge: Mission, Vision and Collective Commitments • Sept 11 - PLC Presentation #2: Building Shared Knowledge: PLC tenets and SMART goals • Sept 18 – PLC Presentation #3: Structure of teams, setting norms and looking at SMART Goals • Sept 25 – Time for completion of tasks based on presentations - Details on next slide • Sept 27 – Professional Development Day, presentation/work time on Common Formative Assessments

September 25th tasksAgenda will be set for you • Use chapter 3 to determine how work together, set norms, guidelines for team work • Analyze data related to focus areas to determine team goal aligned with both district and school based broader goals • Develop at least one goal fully; including measures, timelines; etc. to share out • Complete as far as possible, additional time provided on PD day September 27th
