1WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible What does prophecy tell us abut the future? Daniel 8:3-14 Then I lifted up my eyes and saw, and there, standing beside the river, was a ram which had two horns, and the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher one came up last.
1WPThe Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible 4- I saw the ram pushing westward, northward, and southward, so that no animal could withstand him; nor was there any that could deliver from his hand, but he did according to his will and became great. 5- And as I was considering, suddenly a male goat came from the west, across the surface of the whole earth, without touching the ground; and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes.
1WPThe Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible 6- Then he came to the ram that had two horns, which I had seen standing beside the river, and ran at him with furious power. 7- And I saw him confronting the ram; he was moved with rage against him, attacked the ram, and broke his two horns.
1WPThe Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible There was no power in the ram to withstand him, but he cast him down to the ground and trampled him; and there was no one that could deliver the ram from his hand.
1WPThe Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible 8- Therefore the male goat grew very great; but when he became strong, the large horn was broken, and in place of it four notable ones came up toward the four winds of heaven. 9- And out of one of them came a little horn which grew exceedingly great toward the south, toward the east, and toward the Glorious Land.
1WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible 10- And it grew up to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and some of the stars to the ground, and trampled them. 11- He even exalted himself as high as the Prince of the host; and by him the daily sacrifices were taken away, and the place of His sanctuarywas cast down.
1WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible 12- Because of transgression, an army was given over to the horn to oppose the daily sacrifices; and he cast truth down to the ground. He did all this and prospered. 13- Then I heard a holy one speaking; and another holy one said to that certain one who was speaking,
1WPThe Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible “How long will the vision be, concerning the daily sacrifices and the transgression of desolation, the giving of both the sanctuary and the hostto be trampled underfoot?” 14- And he said to me, “For two thousand three hundred days; then the sanctuary shall be cleansed.”
1WPThe Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible In Daniel 8 is recorded the vision wherein the prophet was shown the future under four graphic scenes. In the first, he saw a ram with two horns. In the second, a goat with a great horn between his eyes came from the west and completely overpowered the ram.
1WPThe Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible After this Daniel saw this great horn broken, and four others came up in its place on the head of this goat. In the third scene, he saw a little horn which came forth from one of these four horns, and in the end became a greater power than either the ram or the goat. In the fourth scene he was told that unto 2300 days, then the sanctuary would be cleansed.
2WPThe Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible Who explained this vision to Daniel? Daniel 8:16 And I heard a man’s voice between the banks of Ulai, who called, and said, “Gabriel, make this man understand the vision.” The angel Gabriel was commanded to explain the meaning of these things.
3WPThe Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible Who was the ram? Daniel 8:20 “The ram which you saw, having two horns -- they are the kings of Media and Persia. The ram was a representation of the kingdom of Medo-Persia which ruled the ancient world from 538 to 331 BC.
4WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible Who was the goat? Daniel 8:21 “And the male goat is the king of Greece. The large horn that is between its eyes is the first king.
4WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible The goat was Greece, which conquered Persia in 331 BC, and the great horn on the goat was the first king of the Grecian world empire, Alexander the Great.
5WPThe Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible Who were the four horns on the goat? Daniel 8:22 “ As for the broken horn and the four that stood up in its place, four kingdoms shall arise out of that nation, but not with its power.
5WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible The four horns which came up when the great horn was broken, were the four parts into which the Grecian Empire was divided after Alexander’s death.
6WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible Who was the little horn? Daniel 8:23 “And in the latter time of their kingdom, When the transgressors have reached their fullness, A king shall arise, Having fierce features, Who understands sinister schemes.
6WPThe Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible The little horn that became greater than either the ram or the goat was the Roman power, which became greater than Persia or Grecia had ever been.
7WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible What happen to Daniel that he did not learn about the 2300 days at this time? Daniel 8:26,27 “And the vision of the evening and the morning Which was told is true; Therefore seal up the vision, For it refers to many days in the future.”
7WPThe Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible 27- AndI, Daniel, fainted and was sick for days; afterward I arose and went about the king’s business. I was astonished by the vision, but no one understoodit. Gabriel did not explain the 2300 days at this time because Daniel fainted when the angel reached that point in the vision.
8WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible Who came to tell Daniel about the 2300 days of the vision? Daniel 9:20-22 Now while I was speaking, praying, and confessingmy sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God,
8WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible 21- Yes, while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, reached me about the time of the evening offering. 22- And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, “O Daniel, I have now come forth to give you skill to understand.
8WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible It was Gabriel who returned to Daniel to explain the 2300 days of the vision.
9WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible How much time was given to the Jews in this Bible prophecy? Daniel 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined For your people and for your holy city, To finish the transgression, To make an end of sins, To make reconciliation for iniquity, To bring in everlasting righteousness, To seal up the vision and prophecy, And to anoint the Most Holy.
9WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible Seventy weeks of the 2300 days were allotted to the Jews as their day of special opportunity. In Bible prophecy, according to the Bible rule of prophetic interpretation, we are to count each day for a year, Eze.4:6; Num. 14:34. So 70 weeks would be (7X70) 490 years, and 2300 days would be 2300 years. These 70 weeks would be the first 490 years of the 2300 years of Daniel 8:14.
10WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible When did the 2300 years begin? Daniel 9:25 (first part) “Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command To restore and to build Jerusalem . . .
10WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible This time period was to be reckoned from the time when the decree would go forth to restore and to build Jerusalem, which at the time of Daniel’s vision was in ruins.
11WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible When was the decree to rebuild made? Ezra 6:14; 7:6-8 So the elders of the Jews built, and they prospered through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo. And they built, and finished it, according to the commandment of the God of Israel,
11WPThe Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible and according to the command of Cyrus, Darius, and Artaxerxes king of Persia. 7:6- this Ezra came up from Babylon; and he was a skilled scribe in the Law of Moses, which the LORD God of Israel had given. The king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the LORD his God upon him.
11WPThe Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible 7- Some of the children of Israel, the priests, the Levites, the singers, the gatekeepers, and the Nethinims came up to Jerusalem in the seventh yearof King Artaxerxes. 8- And Ezra came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, which was in the seventh year of the king.
11WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible This decree, providing for the restoration of the Jewish state at Jerusalem, went forth in the autumn of 457 BC in the seventh year of Artaxerxes.
12WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible What was to happen at the end of 89 weeks? Daniel 9:25 Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command To restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven weeksand sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, Even in troublesome times.
12WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible The Messiah was to appear to men 69 weeks, or 483 years, from the time when that decree for the restoration of Jerusalem would go forth. 483 years from the autumn of 457 BC brings us to the autumn of AD 27, and at that very time Jesus was baptized and became the Anointed (Messiah, and Christ, both mean “anointed”, see John 1:41, margin in KJV) Matt. 3:16,17, Acts 10:38.
12WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible Thus Daniel foretold 565 years beforehand the exact time when Christ, the Messiah, would appear to Israel.
13WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible Did Jesus know that he came to fulfill prophecy? Mark 1:14,15 Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15- and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”
13WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible Christ recognized that He appeared and began His work at the time that had been set or determined beforehand by the Lord through Daniel.
14WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible What happens to the Messiah? Daniel 9:26,27 “And after the sixty-two weeksMessiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; And the people of the prince who is to come Shall destroy thecity and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined.
14WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible 27- Then he shall confirm a covenant with manyfor one week; But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominationsshall be one who makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate.”
14WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible In the middle of this 70th week, which began with the baptism of Jesus, the Messiah would cause the sacrifice of lambs as a sin-offering to cease by the offering of Himself as the sin-offering for man’s sins. The middle of this 70thweek would be 3 ½ years from the autumn of AD 27, when the 69 weeks ended. That would bring us to the spring of AD 31.
14WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible And at that very time, just as Daniel predicted, the Messiah was cut off, or crucified for our sins. The remaining 3 ½ years of this 70th week would bring us to the autumn of AD 34, when the time of Israel’s opportunity expired, and then the gospel was to go to the Gentiles.
14WP The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible When you deduct the 70 weeks, or 490 years, from the 2300 years, you have 1810 years left. This 1810 added to 34, brings us down to the autumn of 1844, to the end of the 2300 days, or years, and to the time set for the cleansing of the sanctuary.
The Most Wonderful Prophecy in the Bible Do you find it interesting that Daniel predicted that the Messiah would come to Israel in A.D. 27? Do you find it interesting that the prophecy extends all the way to 1844? The End
