Gangs in the public school system • FACTS: • School-aged children were at a higher risk of suffering from violence in school than anywhere else • Students in schools with a gang presence are twice as likely to report that they fear becoming victims of violence than their peers at schools without gangs • Schools with gangs are significantly more likely to have drugs available on campus than those without gangs

  3. Prevention • School programs to be set up that inform children about gangs • Safety, communication, warning of the dangers of gang involvement • “Stop gang violence, before it starts” • Prevention starts and home and in early childhood education • Children most impressionable at young age

  4. Campaign against gang violence • Billboard, magazine, and television ads • Placed in major cities and suburbs • Featured in English and Spanish, & other languages in certain areas • Feature families/youth interaction
