  1. Can you... Square a circle...?? Try it on the paper in front of you! Could you do this if you were all-powerful?

  2. God is all-powerful to do anything He wants. However, there are some things God cannot do • things that are impossible to do anyway eg square a circle, • God cannot do something that goes against Himself eg tell a lie, do evil, stop existing • God’s Omnipotence= God can do whatever it is possible to do, and what is according to His nature as God. God’s Omnipotence To define omnipotence To explain examples of how God is omnipotent To evaluate the benefit God limiting His omnipotence Write out the definition of Omnipotence Give two examples of something God could do, if He wanted to. Explain why God can’t tell lies or desire evil to happen **Does the fact that God can’t tell lies make him less powerful??

  3. Bruce Almighty • What is Bruce’s problem? Why doesn’t he just go ahead and “get” his girlfriend back by exercising God’s omnipotence? Is this a good limitation on his power? Why / why not?

Why it is a good thing that God limits his omnipotence and doesn’t • Stop us from sinning • Make us love Him • Interfere in the laws of science. • **Why is our love and goodness worth more because God has given us free will? God chooses to limit His power: He doesn’t perform miracles very often, and He doesn’t control our free will. • He doesn’t stop us from sinning, or from doing evil • He doesn’t make us love him or obey Him • He doesn’t interfere in the Laws of Science: to prevent accidents, or disasters, to stop sickness, or to provide food when it has run out.

  5. How was Jesus’ power omnipotent? In WHAT he did and HOW he did it? • Jesus shows us God’s omnipotent power because of WHAT he did, and HOW he did it. • He healed incurable sickness • He raised the dead, restoring life • He multiplied matter in an unlimited way(feeding 5000) • He changed matter (water to wine) • He controlled the forces of nature • He cast out evil spirits • He freed people from sin • He did these things by His own will/ decision, by a single word, sometimes “remotely”, or by simple touch. • The effects of Jesus’ power were complete and instantaneous. Explain 2 different ways that Jesus’ power was omnipotent with PEE’s power. Which of these features of omnipotent power do you personally find most impressive? Why? **Jesus could “only” heal when someone had faith. Why do you think this was? Why didn’t he just heal anyway?

  6. If you can answer number .... then.. • What is does omnipotent mean? • Give 2 examples of God’s omnipotence? • Explain why it’s a good thing that God limits his power?

  7. Can God create a stone so heavy that even he could not lift it? If He can, but then He can’t lift it, He is not all powerful. If He can’t, then He is not all-powerful.
