  3. AVID is... • Advancement Via Individual Determination • designed to support students to increase school success • preparation for college entrance

  4. AVID curriculum: • Organization: planners, binders, goal setting, weekly grade reports (WPR) • Writing: Cornell notes, essays, learning logs, writing structures • Inquiry: critical thinking, tutorials, Socratic Seminar, metacognition • Collaboration: team work, group work, tutors, AVID team support • Reading: critical reading strategies

  5. Interactive Notebooks (INB): • use a spiral notebook • organized, paginated self-created class ‘textbook’ • used for classwork and homework • graded informally as well as formally • new INB each quarter

  6. How To Support Your Child: • check their planner • check their binder/backpack • weekly progress reports (WPR) • logical rewards/consequences • ask student to talk with me at lunch • check School Loop • Remind 101 and Edmodo • Contact me anytime with questions, concerns, or thoughts • jwolfe@djusd.net
