  3. State v Martin • A criminal case where a student is charged with murder after a high school rock climber is found dead at the base of a cliff. • The case is set in the coastal town of Driftwood City. It is a community that is proud of its high school-its graduates are well known for going to prestigious colleges and universities. Competition at the school is tough. Some now wonder whether it is so tough that it sent one young star off to a tragically early grave. • Beck Martin is charged with 1) Murder 2) Manslaughter

  4. Example of a Mock Trial • Alex Soltin v. Annie/Allen Sway – This year’s case explores the division of legal responsibility when addressing a pervasive social problem, one that is familiar to most, if not all, high school students—bullying. The issue at the heart of the civil claim, to be tried by the participating students, is what level of responsibility do teachers bear in identifying and preventing bullying among students. This is a topic that is prevalent in the media and one that illustrates the challenging intersection between law and social policy. • Mock Trial Example
