The 7 Principles of minimum impact (packing up your camp site) By Jordy, Ash and Olivia
The 7 impacts: • 1. Plan ahead and prepare • 2. Travel and camp on durable surfaces • 3. Dispose of waste properly • 4. Leave what you find • 5. Minimise campfire impact • 6. Respect wildlife • 7. Be considerate of your hosts and other visitors
1. Plan ahead and prepare • Make sure you have all the things you need to properly pack up your campsite after you finish with it, before you begin your trip.
2. Travel and camp on durable surfaces • Make sure you keep your equipment away from the natural environment when you are packing up.
3. Dispose of waste properly • Make sure you collect all your waste and bring it with you when you leave the campsite.
4. Leave what you find • Make sure the natural environment is left exactly how it was found
5. Minimise campfire impact • Make sure all traces of the fire are extinguished before you leave • Don’t burn wildlife or toxic materials • Make sure there are no scraps left behind from the fire
6. Respect wildlife • Don’t leave any food or rubbish for animals to get into
7. Be considerate of your hosts and other visitors • Don’t leave things everywhere when you are packing up • Don’t leave any or nasty surprise for fellow campers to find • Don’t disturb other campers while packing away
