Title: The Discarded Shoes Club
Pitch: • A fiction/fantasy/comedy drama where we look into the lives of the dozens of pairs of shoes cast aside for different reasons in a woman’s closet . • Each pair has their own exciting and sad story which results in them being discarded, thus getting together and forming the first AA style Discarded Shoes Club [DSC]. • Aimed at a wide range of internet users from the general age of 15-25 as this is the range of age of searching funny time consuming shorts online.
Rationale • The main issue the video will tackle is how easily we dispose of our possessions, with little or no thought of their feelings! • Every pair has its own back story which will allow the themes of Power Memory and Spectacle to shine through. • I want to focus on each pair having their own characteristics, this can be shown through the way they’re animated, and the accents they have.
Context • Where will this project fit? Well entertainment through shorts on the internet is all the rave for young adults in today's world. When a bunch of friends sit down together and they're bored, more often then not, they will go on Youtube to find some random clip they can watch, which then allows word of mouth as a main distributor. So the short will fit within today's internet media environment. • The project also gives the comedy factor, and the fact inanimate objects are having an AA style meeting, this will be the new idea it offers. • It answers the question of do our possessions have feelings towards how we treat them.
Distribution • As the purpose of the film is to be a comical, fictional drama, the main source of distribution will be the internet. Youtube being the main distributor, then other video sharing websites such as Vimeo. • I'm also intereseted in exhibiting my work online through http://www.futureshorts.com all I have to do is submit my video where it can be seen in a large film makers network, the top 20 shorts each month get exhibited at 20 UK venues, so I want to attempt to get this.
Budget • Having most of the props needed, and having equipment available to loan, there is no budget needed for this film as I can film it all on location within walking distance of where I live. • However I may need to get an actor involved, an if I cant manage to get one of my own acting friends to do it for free I've put a budget aside of £60, chances are I wont even need this much as the only scene I need a full body for, will be the running scene. So this is subject to change. • Taking into account everything from travel to equipment, props, and constraints, I can’t see where else I would need to incorporate a budget in making this short.
Skills Audit • Camera and editing skills- I'm relatively pleased with my editing skills and can usually attain and translate the exact visuals as they are in my head, onto the editing software. • My camera skills aren't too bad, and providing I know exactly what camera angles I want for the video, I'm creative enough to produce it. • If I hit a creative block, or a brick wall, I have people I can rely on to help me. • I also have extensive knowledge in the main issue of the film. I am a self confessed shoe lover and with too many pairs to count, I am experienced in buying shoes and putting them to the side after wearing them once, or sometimes not at all: so they're only for display purpose. I have a lot of discarded shoe stories myself so I can easily draw upon these to animate how the shoes feel. It will be interesting to see it from the shoes point of view.
Plans/Schedule • 1st February- Final draft of scrip finalised • 20th February Confirmed locations • As the crew for this project has been finalised, filming will commence by February 25th • Filming to be completed by Tuesday March 8th, but I am allowing flexibility for any problems, constraints and contingencies up until Friday 11th March. • The following week I will be going through all the RAW footage and writing the time codes and durations up against the finalised story board. • The week of 21st March will be used to do any extra shooting that needs to be done in case the original footage isn't up to scratch. • first two weeks of April - editing • Editing completed - Friday 15th of April. • And I then hope to submit this piece onto the future shorts website in May.
Conclusion • My final project is viable as its a low budget short for which I have already have the props and crew sorted out for. The locations are either inside the house or in parks or on the street, so I wouldn't necessarily need permission to film there as it is public ground., however I will double check this. • Another reason which makes my project viable is the experience I already have within making films in outside university, I have ample editing and camera knowledge in order to make this project a success. • The final reason it will be viable is because the style of the film. Its a short comedic piece which I hope will be easily accepted by the internet community. • I am actually quite excited to make this video, purely because I'll be out of my comfort zone within the style and context, I've never made a film designed purely for the internet community on a non profit basis, and I'm certainly not familiar with making quirky shorts. So it should definitely be a fun and challenging project.
