Sunflowers and Acid Rain Talent 21 Project By Yanni Date 5-9-12 Period 4
Introduction • The purpose of this experiment was to find out what wound happen to the seeds if we us tamp water and experimental water on the seeds. • The control in this experiment was water. • The variable in this experiment was vinegar.
Materials • Plastic cup • super growing pellets • Triple beam balance scale • Sunflower seeds • Water or 10% vinegar water • Ruler • Data sheet
Methods • Add super growing pellets to cup. • Add 3 tablespoons of water to expand. • Plant 3 seeds per cup. • Weigh cup on triple beam balance. Record weight. • Add tap water or vinegar water to cup. Weigh again and record data. • Cup will be placed under grow light. • Observe the container daily and note any indications of growth(by observations and measurement) and compare to other containers in the experiment. While observing indicate any special care given to the plant. (Did you need to add more or less water? Did you need to rotate the plant?) • Record observations, measurements, and comments in the plant growth diary. Once the plant begins to grow, you will need to draw a detailed picture of the plant including the appearance of leaves and stems. • Each day , repeat steps 3 through 8.
Scientific Method • Ask a Question • State Your Hypothesis • Identify Control & Variable • Test Your Hypothesis • Collect & Record Your Data • Interpret Your Data • State Your Conclusion
Ask a Question • The purpose of this experiment was to find out • My question: What would happen if we added vinegar water to a plant seed.
State Your Hypothesis • If I plant a sunflower seed gets exposed by vinegar it will die because plants can’t have vinegar water because it can only have water.
Identify Control & Variable Control was water for the experiment. And vinegar water was the Variable.
Test Your Hypothesis • Vinegar water was added and it didn’t work. The plant didn’t grow. It stead the same ever since we planted it.
Interpret Your Data • This is where you put your analysis. The results showed that (Describe general trends from your data) • As part of this experiment there may have been variables or scientific errors that could have affected the growth of the plants and the outcome of this experiment. The variables affecting the results may have been (Describe any variables in your particular experiment.) Scientific errors that could have occurred and affected the results include (describe – for example used the wrong type of water )
State Your Conclusion • The results of this lab (did/did not) support the initial hypothesis (explain why you think this was the outcome.) Some things that were learned from this experiment were (identify what you learned without using first person) This experiment could be extended in the future by (identify an investigation that would be a natural next step based on your results.) • Add Graphic
