  2. introduction • “The Lorax” was written by Dr. Seuss. • The reason why Dr. Seuss wrote this book was to educate young minds about caring for the planet. • Today we will: • Read “The Lorax”. • Discuss the main idea of the story. • Check for understanding.

  3. Who was The Once-ler? • The Once-ler comes across a glorious place full of Truffula Trees. • He decides to chop down Truffula Trees to make Thneeds. • His business grows, so he makes a factory to make more Thneeds.

  4. Who was The lorax? • The Lorax came out of a Truffula Tree stump. • He spoke for the Truffula trees. • He also spoke for the Brown Bar-ba-loots, the Swomee-Swans, and the Humming-Fish.

  5. What is the main idea? • The Once-ler was chopping down all of the Truffula Trees to make Thneeds. • The Lorax tried to convince the Once-ler to stop cutting down the Truffula Trees, but he would not listen to the Lorax. • The Once-ler then made a factory to make more thneeds, ignoring the Lorax’s warnings.

  6. The Swamee-Swans had to leave because they could not sing with all of the smog in their throats. The Humming-Fish also had to leave because there was goo in their gills from the pond. • The Brown-bar-ba-loots • left first because there • wasn’t anymore Truffula • Fruit.

  7. In the end… • The Once-ler had cut down all of the Truffula Trees. • After all of the animals left and the Truffula trees were all gone, the Lorax decided to leave as well. • Since there wasn’t anymore Truffula Trees, the Once-ler’s factory had closed down. • The Once-ler had saved the last Truffula Seed and gave it to the young boy so that he could plant a forest of Truffula Trees.

Conclusion • The Once-ler did not listen to the Lorax, and ruined the environment with his factory. • The animals had to leave and the air became polluted. • It is important to take care of the environment because it affects us, the animals, and plants. • The Lorax said “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”
