  3. The Butter Battle Book (1984) • Satire of current events in the 1980s. • As you watch, consider what events is Dr. Seuss referencing? • What commentary is he making on these events?

  4. Your group will be assigned a topic: • The Cold War • Nuclear Arms Race • Race for the Superbomb • The Berlin Wall

Directions • After exploring the source that you have been assigned, identify references to this event in The Butter Battle Book. • Identify each reference in the form of a quote. • Explain the reference in your own words. • Identify the type of satire being used: • Exaggeration • Incongruity • Parody • Reversal

  6. Presentations • You will present your research in the form of three PowerPoint slides: • Summary of references to your events in the book. Provide some quotes from the book as examples. • Summary of commentary Dr. Seuss is making on the event. • Satirical devices used by Dr. Seuss to make this commentary.
