  3. How to start? • Send as many applications as possible: • Nature Jobs, Science Jobs, EU-life, • Jobs. ac.uk, indeed.com, University of Cambridge. If you get an interview.. • Figure out what are the strengths of the place • Try to figure out what they are looking for • If possible try to make your research fit their strategic interests

What should you ask them? • What are you looking for in a candidate? • What is the structure of the appointment? • What is the likely package? • What is the prospect beyond the appointment? • How much collaboration is there within the institute? • Facilities? Support? Computing structure? • Start up money? • Nursery? How many women hold tenured posts? Athena Swan in place?

Tenure is a 12 year period and then you are kicked out – not very family friendly as children in schools at that stage!

Look for jobs with in-house nursery (with discounts for workers) Look for Salary Sacrifice Schemes (pre-tax discounts) Negotiate higher salaries!! Look for Athena-gold medals
