  1. Effective Treatment for Tinnitus What is the effective treatment for tinnitus?

  2. Tinnitus is referred to as a sensation of ringing, hissing, whistling, humming, roaring, or buzzing sound in the inner ear without any external sound. If reports are to be believed 15% of the population experience tinnitus. It can be experienced by anyone irrespective of age and gender but is majorly diagnosed in people above the age group of 45 years.

  3. The ringing sound perceived by a person experiencing tinnitus ranges from low to high pitch. The ringing sensation may even remain persistent in some cases, it entirely depends on how severe the condition is. A person suffering from tinnitus experiences ringing sensations in both the ears and either of the one.

  4. Carrying out simple daily tasks and leading a normal happy life look tiring if one is suffering from tinnitus. It not only hampers daily chores but creates hindrance in sleep too. Sleeping in a silent environment and taking a sound sleep with tinnitus is not possible as a silent environment just doubles up the velocity of the sound. If the case is persistent it may result in a permanent loss of hearing ability thus making the condition worse. It is advised to seek treatment for tinnitus on time to prevent hearing loss.

  5. Tinnitus is not an inner ear disease in itself but a symptom of various underlying causes that are directly linked with the inner ear or auditory system. When the vestibular nerves or auditory nerve gets inflamed, the messages to the brain are blocked or interrupted results in causing vertigo spells and tinnitus in patients. A person suffering from tinnitus (ringing sensations) experiences its own set of symptoms as well and may even lead to loss of permanent hearing ability if the case becomes severe. Meniere disease, blockage in the vestibular system, etc. results in showing tinnitus symptoms.

  6. What is the most effective treatment for Tinnitus? Once you are diagnosed with tinnitus, your doctor may ask you to stop certain antibiotics or replace it if it is triggering tinnitus symptoms. Your doctor will prescribe you with certain tinnitus therapies, masking devices, vertigo tablets, and vertigo treatments as well depending upon the symptoms and the severity of your condition. Let's have a look at some effective tinnitus treatments:

  7. Hearing aids Doctors generally suggest patients of tinnitus for Hearing aids as it helps in suppressing the noise. It suppresses the loud noises heard in the inner ear and improves the hearing efficiency of the patient experiencing tinnitus.

  8. White noise machines As we know, a silent environment triggers the symptoms of tinnitus and it becomes nearly impossible for a person to sleep in a quiet place, thus leading to anxiety and stress. Doctors recommend White noise machines as an effective tinnitus treatment that allows patients to sleep peacefully at night. White noise machines create soothing sounds like rain droplets and breeze, which creates an environment for tinnitus patients to sleep peacefully at night with soothing sounds.

  9. Masking devices Same as hearing aids, masking devices are worn in the affected ear. Low-level environmental sounds produced by masking devices help in suppressing ringing sensations.

  10. Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT) Tinnitus Retraining Therapy is one of the best tinnitus treatments suggested by doctors after diagnosing the condition. It helps the auditory system to accept annoying sounds and makes the sound less noticeable. A device is inserted into the ear which allows patients to perceive sound as normal rather than disruptive by producing the sounds that match the pitch of ringing sensations. As per medicals, Tinnitus Retraining Therapy is one of the most effective treatments for tinnitus. Doctors generally recommend undergoing TRT for at least a year or two to recover completely.

  11. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) Doctors even suggest Cognitive-behavioral therapy as a treatment for tinnitus. CBT makes the ringing sound in the inner ear less noticeable thus changing the patient's way of perceiving sounds.

  12. Medication Doctors may prescribe tinnitus patients with certain antibiotics and suppressants as per the severity of symptoms. If a person is suffering from tinnitus due to Meniere's disease, then the doctor may prescribe you with a vertigo tablet such as Meclizine tablet. It is quite effective in treating and suppressing vestibular disorders thus giving relief by easing symptoms. Do not self-medicate, it is advised to consult a neurologist for the right medicine as these medicines come with certain side effects. Apart from Meclizine, your doctor may even prescribe Alprazolam (Xanax), amitriptyline, etc. to ease tinnitus.
