The Roles of the Governor Chief Executive Enforcement of law, commander-in-chief of the state militia or National Guard Budget making Appointment of officials = hundreds of officials to help him/her carry out his/her duties. Legislative Leader = Propose new laws, budgets or speak to the legislature to try to convince them to do something.Power to veto or item veto. Power to call for a special session of the legislature. Judicial Role = Some states allow Governors the power of appointment of certain judges, pardons or reduce sentences for criminals.
  3. State Executive Agencies Each state has a multitude of agencies and departments responsible for making sure the state runs smoothly. Examples includes departments such as DOE or Department of Education, DOH or Department of Health, DOS Department of State (Secretary of State), FDLE or Florida department of Law Enforcement…
  4. State Executive Agencies The Gov. also has a cabinet. (Fl.= Attorney General, Chief Financial Officer, Commissioner.) Florida is different than many other states because the cabinet members are elected by the people not appointed by the Governor. Lieutenant Governor = The state official second in rank to the governor. Similar to the Vice President of the U.S. Secretary of State = third in charge for the state.
