Forwarding table Note that asymmetric bridge uplinks do not record MAC addresses, but the downlinks do. For TLS bridges, utilize normal layer two troubleshooting techniques. MTAC Testing The MXK-MTAC/RING-ENH card is able to perform Metallic Loop Testing (MLT) without an external test set. The MXK-MTAC/RING-ENH card comes with an integrated test head, thus, each shelf has its own dedicated test head. This means user can now communicate with each shelf concurrently to perform test out sessions. Typical tests takes 1-2 seconds.

Back up old configuration and software Back up the old configuration using: zSH> dump network <host> <filename> Create the file locally zSH> cd onreboot zSH> dump file restore To create a software backup, create a local directory on the flash and copy all *.bin files to it.
Download software to MXK flash Unpack the *.tar.gz file and publish it with your TFTP server Download the *.bin files to your MXK system You can also download the *.bin files for every card you have, but if you later insert a different uplink or line card you need to download the accompanying .bin file for the card

Reset and reboot Reset and reboot the system zSH> set2default The system will now clear the database, reboot and use the new software When the “restore” file is found, the MXK will read back the configuration and do a secondary reboot
Zhone emergency mode The Zhone utility mode allows the operator to upgrade, format and reinstall the uplink without a working firmware. This mode is normally not used, but it is a very valuable tool if needed. To enter the utility mode, connect to the serial craft port and reboot the unit. Wait for the message “Loading raw file” then enter “zhone” in the console. This will effectively halt the boot process and return a command prompt. At this stage only the 10/100 management port and the serial port are accessible. Add a temporary address and route to the 10/100 management with zSH> ipconfig 10.0.0.100 zSH> route add 0.0.0.0 10.0.0.1
