By: Fofo Kabasele Should small towns and communities spend more money on public spaces in order to increase economic development and community spirit?
Why this is interesting to me • My dads a jogger • My mom is disabled (wheel chair) • I personally like walking around my town/city. • Curiosity
Public spaces? • A public space is a social space that is generally open and accessible to people. • Completed Roads • Parks, Wetlands • Sidewalks, Bike lanes, Cross walks • Recreational Centers • Preserved public spaces
Benefits • Having sidewalks, crosswalks, and bike lanes will promote more members in the community to be active and will provide more safety for the communities' citizens. • Community spirit will increase(parades, and more community participation.) • Appeal to possibly future citizens
Statistics • Personal-42% Social 38%; Family activity 12%, Environmental 6%, Economic 2% (Pennsylvania State University Survey) • Reduction in fatalities such as pedestrians range 44,000 since 1975 to 37,000 in 2008
Obstacles for research • Finding the statics I needed for what I wanted (updated) • making it focus on multiple sub topics (basically explaining open spaces fully)
Success • Made a great basis for a product • Explained open spaces • Also gave ideas as to what the community could do for economically increase with natural resources
Link to product • Both of them dealt with community • Has pedestrians involved. • For my product I did a survey to ask citizens about what they felt about their community and based it off my research. • Both involved some participation from community leaders.
Product • Survey Says
Things I learned about myself • I have a problem with delaying and put off things • I also learned that its much easier to talk to people of your age or people you can somehow relate with. • I learned if you don’t dress professional people tend to take you less seriously. • As a leader you have to know what your people are thinking • You cant please everybody
Career/college • I probably wont do anything like community serves again when comes to what want to do • This project did help understand people better. • I also learned that you have approach each individual in a different way professional.
Was it worthwhile • Yes, dealing with something and discovering something I had no idea about was truly a great experience
Thank you for your time • Do you have any questions?
