Mind GymAn Athlete’s Guide To Inner Excellence By: Gary Mack and David Casstevens Presentation: Steven Carra
Synapsis • Athletes guide but can be applied to anyone • Works on positive cycles • Improving self talk • Motivation • Inspiration • Improving performance • Visualization • All through true stories
Getting over yourself • Brainstorming common business and teacher tool for sharing info • Or virtual brainstorming • Both have pros and cons
Getting over yourself (applied to class) • People in large groups may feel: • Fear • Anger • Anxiety • Self consciousness • Perfectionism • Stubbornness • Lack of motivation • Competitiveness • Distractions • persistence
My family • Plans for the day were similar to brainstorming • Mom always made me feel positive through her • Brother, not so much
The next level • STAGES • Forming • Storming • Norming • Performing • Adjuring
The next level- Applied • Magic Johnson’s Father taught him to: • Work on all aspects of his game • Especially on areas where he struggled • That it did not matter what level he was on if he kept moving forward • There is no wrong stage- all of them are important and take work
My Family • Dad and I training • Got me started off • Want to work the strong muscles • Truly become better and well rounded for bodybuilding by being well rounded • Applies to school, hobbies, sports and relationships (always need work)
Good Enough To Dream • A.C.T. • Accept your present state • Create your desired state • Take action through goal setting
Good Enough to Dream Applied to leadership • Leading a group, business, discussion, activator, summarizer or classroom, some important things to remember: ACT
Act • No matter where the group is it is fine • Simply get ready for the first step forward • Goal is progress, sometimes the group moves backward or forward for the stages
Create • Make a change for the optimal environment for progress • Respect • Open atmosphere • Set expectations
Take action through goal setting • Goals are crucial for getting the bus to move together towards an objective • Goals help vision (remember engineers and building planes from the energy bus) • SMART-make sure goals are • Specific • Manageable • Achievable • Reachable • Timely
My family • Christmas time • Tree • Lights • Music • Shopping • All involve a specific vision that gets everyone excited and motivated together
Progress Not Perfection • In groups dynamics and tasks are constantly changing • Working in a group is process oriented • How the goals were reached determines is how the different dynamics and role players can be seen
My family • Of course this aspect of group dynamics can be seen • Families are a group • There is no final goal when you reach being family • Stages are always changes and there is always drive for progress in relationships, material items, along with health and happiness. • Happiness is not a destination
