  6. Leak state secrets • Some information on the wiki leaks can leak state secrets by showing some data that it is about security of countries. • On October 23, 2010, Wikipedia decryption 391,832 copy announced the U.S. about the war in Iraq's confidential documents

  7. Leak State Secrets • In April 2010, Wikipedia decryption released in 2007 American troops in Baghdad killing a lot of civilians • July 25, 2010, Wikipedia decryption through England Germany "mirror" and the United States in the New York times released about Afghan war of 92 U.S. military confidential documents

  8. Leak other information • Government • Company • Organization • Team and group • Individual

  9. Editing and Publishing Process • How does the editing and publishing process at Wikileaks work? • Originally did not edit or review leaks • This led to the worry that too many spam leaks would be published • Decided to change to an active editing process • Has an opaque editing and review process

  10. Who reviews the documents? • We don't know • Documents that do not fit the submission criteria of Wikileaks (having political, diplomatic, historical, or ethical interest) are rejected by anonymous reviewers • Hypocritical stance on transparency • Reveals innermost workings of governments, but will not reveal its own reviewers

  11. How are submissions verified? • According to Assange, “The simplest and most effective countermeasure [to fraudulent leaks] is a worldwide community of informed users and editors who can scrutinise and discuss leaked documents." • Leaks and leakers are vetted by 5 reviewers with varying fields of expertise, but ultimately Assange gets the final say.

  12. Lack of responsible distribution. • Released a video of collateral damage that showed an Apache helicopter killing two Reuters employees and wounding children. • No age gate that prevents children from accessing video.

  13. Granai Airstrike • Given to WikiLeaks by PFC Bradley Manning • Yet to be released • Reported to be a video of the Granai Airstrike that killed between 86 and 145 civilians.

  14. Lack of responsible editing • Information leaked is released as is. • Could have negative impact.
