FORMATIVE ASSESSMENTSELENA • You may write this essay alone or with a partner/small group. • This, along with your TODs will become your assessment for the Selena unit. • In your essay, reflect on the life and death of Selena Quintanilla. • In writing your essay, consider these questions: • 1.  How would you describe Selena as a child? • 2.  What were the concerns that Marcela (Selena's mother) had when she began singing at a young age? In the end, were these concerns justified? • 3.  Where did Selena first begin to sing and who were the members of her band? How did this influence her career and life decisions? • 4. Describe the conflict between the parents regarding the children and their music career, and especially with Selena’s future. • 5. Describe the conflict between Selena and her father. Whose side did you take in this conflict and why? • Do you think that the Selena’s on-stage persona was the same as her off-stage persona? How did she change or did she essentially remain the same throughout her life? • Explain the circumstances surrounding Selena’s death. What do you think happened between Selena and Yolanda at the time of Selena’s death?
