Remember that in division, there are steps to follow. • Divide • Multiply • Subtract • Bring Down • Remainder Follow the steps and you’ll be fine!
A trick to remember – think of division as a house and the steps are a family. 3 86
The first step is to DIVIDE.Think of the D as Dad. 2 3 86 You can divide 8 by 3 TWO times. Three times is too high because 3x3 equals 9.
The second step is to MULTIPLY.Think of the M as Mom. 2 3 86 6 Multiply 2 x 3 which equals 6.
The third step is to SUBTRACT.Think of the S as Sister. 2 3 86 6 2 Subtract the 6 from the 8 which leaves 2.
The fourth step is to BRING DOWN.Think of the B as Brother. 2 3 86 6 2 6 Bring down the 6. Now you are working with 26. NOW THE STEPS START ALL OVER!!
