TRADITIONAL SPORT IN SIRACUSA: THE WATER POLO
THE WATER POLO The water polo sport was born in the nineteenth century in England and Scotland, where the rules were codified for the first time by William Wilson in 1887 . A water polo game sees two teams face off. Each team is represented by seven players who can be replaced during the match for an unlimited number of times, except when they committ three major faults, in which case, it is declared a send off with its requirement for replacement. The players must touch the ball with one hand. The team which has more points gains the game.
Included in the Olympic games since 1900, water polo is practiced mainly in Europe, USA and Australia.
The world of sport has always been a model of values, particularly for discipline, even as a metaphor for the essential role of team collaboration both in racing and in the workplace
“CIRCOLO CANOTTIERI ORTIGIA “ IS THE MOST FAMOUS WATERPOLO CLUB OF SIRACUSA.
SHORT HISTORY Until the early seventies, the team plays in the minor leagues. Then a new coach, Romolo Parodi, radically changes the situation. In less than ten years, focusing on young people – such as Alessandro Campagna, the present coach of the italian team , Parodi brings the team of Canottieri Ortigia in the first division.
His successor Tore Albo continues his good work. Parodi was back in 1984 and he remains some years. His legacy is still alive: the present coach Aldo Baio and the veteran Mauro Bordone had Parodi as headcoach.
