The Following Risk Factors Have Been Associated With Suicidal Behavior • Significant loss • Setbacks • Severe, prolonged, and/or perceived unmanageable stress • A sense of powerless, helplessness, and/or hopelessness • Presence of a weapon in the home • History of previous suicide attempts
Statistics • Every 13.7 seven minutes, someone dies from suicide. • Every 60 seconds, someone attempts suicide.
Other Statistics • 90% of people who die by suicide have diagnosable ad treatable psychiatric disorder at the time of their death. • Men are nearly four times more likely to die by suicide than women. Women attempt suicide three times as often as men. • Suicide is the fourth leading cause of death for adults between ages eighteen and sixty-five in the United States • Everyday, about one-hundred and five Americans die from suicide. • Suicide is the third leading cause in death among those fifteen to twenty-four years old in the United States
