  2. The Messiah’s MiraclesMatthew 8 & 9; Mark 1,2,4 & 5; Luke 5, 7 & 8 Disease It is one of the tragic consequences of Adam’s sin Modern medicine helps, but disease still debilitates and kills Jesus demonstrated He had authority over disease, demons, nature, sin and even death

  3. The Leper Matthew 8:1-4; Mark 1:40-45; Luke 5:12-15 Mosaic Law restricted lepers from being near everyone else (Numb. 5:2,3) Lepers were considered unclean & anyone touched by them would become unclean (Leviticus 13:45)

  5. The Leper Matthew 8:1-4; Mark 1:40-45; Luke 5:12-15 Jesus touched the leper and healed & cleansed him. Jesus cleanses the unclean. The unclean do not make Jesus unclean. Jesus came to fulfill the law, not break it. The leper became a living testimony to the religious leaders

The Centurion had greater faith than anyone Jesus had seen in Israel Jesus healed the boy as requested, from a distance without being physically present

  8. Peter’s Mother-in-Law Matthew 8:14-17; Mark 1:29-31 Women were generally held in low-esteem Jesus healed her completely. She was able to get up immediately and serve Peter had a wife (see 1 Corinthians 9:5) Jesus healed all who came (vs. 16,17). He proved His authority over disease as prophesied

Calming the Sea Matthew 8:18-27; Mark 4;35-41; Luke 8:22-25 Man can’t control nature, only react to it & guess at what it will do They are in the midst of a very violent storm & in danger of being swamped Jesus is tired & asleep in the stern Even the fisherman had come to the end of their abilities to cope.

Calming the Sea Matthew 8:18-27; Mark 4;35-41; Luke 8:22-25 They show faith by their confidence that Jesus would save them Jesus rebukes the wind and waves - not any supernatural forces Wind & waves stop immediately & are calm - contradicting physics Only God could do this. Jesus has authority over nature (Colossians 1:16)

  15. The Paralytic’s Sins Matthew 9:1-8: Mark 2:1-12; Luke 5:17-26 The scribes thought this was blasphemy for only God can forgive sins (Isaiah 43:25; Micah 7:18,19). Jesus healed the man instantaneously to prove He could also forgive sins.

  16. The Synagogue Official’s Daughter Matthew 9:18-31: Mark 5:22-43; Luke 8:41-56 Jairus, a synagogue official, entreats Jesus to heal his 12 year old daughter who is near death. On the way there, a woman who had a hemorrhage for 12 years touched Jesus cloak & was healed The unclean are healed & cleansed when they are touched by Jesus

  17. The Synagogue Official’s Daughter Matthew 9:18-31: Mark 5:22-43; Luke 8:41-56 The girl had died, but Jesus encouraged them to believe. The professional mourners were there Jesus sent them away & raised the girl from the dead

  18. The Synagogue Official’s Daughter Matthew 9:18-31: Mark 5:22-43; Luke 8:41-56 Jesus raised other people from the dead – Luke 17:12-17; John 11 Jesus has authority over death because He is God.

  19. Conclusions What do you believe about Jesus? His authority over disease, demons, nature, sin and death prove His deity People reject the logical conclusion because they fear other people

  20. Conclusions Do you live for the present, or eternity? Who do you fear more? God or people
