What are the symptoms and causes of spondylosis?
Spondylosis is a medical term used to refer to the general degeneration of the spine and its shock-absorbing intervertebral discs. Also, chronic condition that oftentimes lasts years or throughout a patient’s lifetime, but many people don’t have symptoms until the degeneration of the spinal column causes a secondary complication.
Symptoms spondylosis is a blanket term for spinal and disc degeneration, a variety of symptoms may arise depending on the location, severity and nature of the underlying problem. The Common symptoms are: Neck (Cervical spine) 1) Pain that comes and goes 2) Morning neck or shoulder stiffness or a limited range of motion after getting out of bed 3) Neck or shoulder tenderness or numbness
Low back (Lumbar spine) 1) Pain that comes and goes 2) Morning low back stiffness after getting out of bed 3) Pain that decreases with rest or after exercise 4) Low back tenderness or numbness 5) Sciatica (mild to intense leg pain) 6) Difficulty walking
Causes The primary underlying causes of spondylosis are aging and the general wear and tear associated with the body’s natural life. The cause of neck pain is multifactorial, there is no evidence to prove/disprove the quantitative effect of one or other. The risk factors for neck pain can be: • Aging: as a part of the normal age related degenerative process.
• Injuries and Accidents: Injury to muscle , ligaments , or soft tissue can lead to back/neck pain. • Obesity: along with weak abdominal muscles often disrupt the spines balance, causing your back/neck to bend uncomfortably to compensate.
