  5. Dollar auction was the same mentality as the Arms Race • You just compete not to lose.. By doing so you both lose tremendously • Instead of bidding on the dollar bill, the US and USSR was competing to see who had more nuclear weapons. • Got to the point where both sides had enough to blow the world up 100x’s over! • MUTUALLY ASSURED DESTRUCTION

  7. Technology & “Smarts” • In modern society being smarter = power • Who is more “powerful”??? • Remember power is defined by “the ability to get people to do things that YOU want them to, instead of what they want to do. OR

  8. Proving you are smarter is difficult • There needs to be a competition of some sort. • How can you PROVE you are smarter than someone else? • Well, they found a competition as well…

To recap.. • The cold war was fought through another country… • ? • Korea, 38th parallel, Stalemate, etc • Proving you were superior in other ways. • If you can beat someone real bad in athletics… you can probably beat them up • If you can outsmart someone… you can probably beat them up • If you can show you are stronger than them.. They may feel intimidated • … next slide is INTIMIDATION!
