How It All Gets Done! Step 1 An order for food is placed through then is delivered to the River Falls Community Food Pantry
Step 2 Takes place at the River Falls Community Food Pantry Dedicated volunteers unload the truck from Second Harvest Next they take it into the pantry The food is sorted and taken to Ezekiel Lutheran church where step 3 begins
Food to be put into the backpacks are set out on the back shelves on Wednesday evenings by the Ezekiel Lutheran church youth group.
Step 3 Volunteer (Darcy) explains the process for packing the bags to the kids from Greenwood Elementary
Danielle Anne Volunteers Anne and Danielle keep a close eye as the kids are filling the bags to be sure that nothing gets missed (rarely does anything get missed)-these kids are Awesome!
Nothing wrong with a treat or two or three every now and again!
These kids take their job of filling the backpacks very seriously
Happy to help! After the bags have been filled, Anne places food vouchers, recipes, or any other necessary inserts into the backpacks.
Care is being taken to secure the bags with Zip ties to prevent content from falling out, or unwanted items from getting into the backpack before they arrive home for the weekend.
Even a broken leg could not stop these dedicated Greenwood Elementary students from participating
Members of the River Falls High School “United Way Packers” take time to give back by volunteering once a month to pack backpacks.
After the bags have been packed and ziptied, each coded backpack is placed into their designated bins to be picked up by the volunteers who take them to the participating schools
Volunteers, John, Jerry and Morris (not in photo) deliver the backpacks to their designated schools on Thursdays
The empty backpacks are picked up on Mondays by Andy (not pictured), and on Thursday mornings by Loida. She sorts, checks to make sure they are in good condition, and keep track of missing backpacks. Then the process begins again
None of this would be possible without the help of our dedicated volunteers and supporters. Thank You! ~ Be Blessed
