  2. What is MPIR? • A small application which can be run on a PDA • Combines some features of GPS and instant messaging program.

  3. What does it do? • Automatically synchronizes with the server. • Locates other clients with the same software in the same building. • Lets other clients view one’s profile and shared information.

  4. Features • User Friendly • Data store in list • No manual download • Privacy • Invisible mode • Only viewed by selected clients (buddy list)

  5. Who will use this? • Students • Faculty • Doctors • Company Employees • And many others…

  6. System Architecture • Connection between PDA and WiFi access point • Unique MAC Identifier • SQL server as backend • User’s profile • Maps MAC IDs to buildings • Web Services (.NET)

  7. Can it be done? • State of the wireless technology • Growth of WiFi enabled infrastructures • Risks • Difficulty in determining the MAC ID • It may take longer than 7-8 weeks to complete • The program may not fit in a PDA.
