Expectations From MSD This Year Achievements in priority order: #1 is most critical for the current generation. #5 is most valuable in the long-run. • Demonstrate one LV1 Platform that can be controlled with a hard-wired connection from a client computer co-located on the LV1 as the payload. • Demonstrate one LV1 Platform that can be controlled with a hard-wired connection from a base station. • Demonstrate one LV1 Platform that can be controlled with “Option A” wireless connection from a base station. • Demonstrate one LV1 Platform that can be controlled with “Option B” wireless connection from a base station. • Provide sufficient LV1 / WOCCS systems for a First Year student competition during Winter 2010-2.
Potential Applications for AY2010 • “Easy Goal” Deliver One LV1/WOCCS • Perhaps we can do some kind of demo for the first year students. • “Moderately Difficult Goal” Deliver Five LV1/WOCCS • Let’s have a DDR (Dance, Dance, Robo-lution) competition. Each of the five freshman seminar groups (35-40 students each) next winter could be provided with a Wireless LV1. They would design a “character” payload for it, and then have to program the robot to do a dance. Teams could get fewer points for simple dance moves, more points for intricate dance routines, and lots more points for dancing with robo-partners from other classes. • “Very Challenging Goal” Deliver Twenty Five LV1/WOCCS • Let’s have a Big Robot Payload (BRP) competition. Each of twenty-five freshman teams (5-7 students each) next winter could be provided with a Wireless LV1. They would design a “character” payload for it, and then have to program the robot to do a dance. Teams could get fewer points for simple dance moves, more points for intricate dance routines, and lots more points for dancing with partners from other classes.
