  2. Plot Michael Berg is a young man , he comes home from school and feels sick in the street. Hanna Schmitz is a tram conductor, comes in and helps him to return home. After he recovers, he visits Hanna with flowers to thank her . Michael falls in love and they begin an affair. They spend much of their time together and sometimes Michael reads literary works to her, such as emilia galotti, the odyssey, the lady with the little dog, adventures of huckleberry finn and the tintin comic the seven crystal balls. Hanna learns she is being promoted to a clerical job at the tram company. She moves without telling Michael.

  3. The film goes on with Michael at Heidelberg University law school in 1966. As part of a special seminar taught by Professor Rohl, the students observe a trial of several women accused of letting 300 Jewish women die in a burning church when they were SS guards on the death march following the 1944 .Hanna is one of the defendants. Hanna admits that Auschwitz was an extermination camp and that the ten women she chose during each month's Selektion were gassed. She denies authorship of a report on the church fire, despite pressure from the other defendants, but then admits it rather than complying with a demand to provide a handwriting sample. Michael then realizes Hanna's secret: she is illiterate and has concealed it her whole life and she can not wrote the report on the church fire Michael did not told this information in the trial because he was afraid.

  4. Hanna receives a life sentence for her admitted leadership role in the church deaths while the other defendants are sentenced to four years and three months each. While Michael marries, has a daughter. Retrieving his books from the time of the affair with Hanna, he begins reading them into a tape recorder. He sends the cassette tapes and a recorder to Hanna. Eventually, she begins to check the books out from the prison library and teaches herself to read and write by following along with Michael's tapes. She starts writing back to Michael in brief, child-like notes. Michael does not write back or visit, but in 1988 a prison official telephones him to seek his help with Hanna's transition into society after her upcoming release. He finds a place for her to live and a job and finally visits Hanna a week before her release. In their meeting, Michael remains somewhat distant and confronts her about what she has learned from her past. Michael arrives at the prison on the date of Hanna's release with flowers. He discovers that Hanna hanged herself. The film ends with Michael getting back together with his daughter Julia at Hanna's grave and beginning to tell her his story.

  5. The Reader is a drama film based on the 1995 German novel of the same name by Bernhard Schlink. The film was written by David Hare and directed by Stephen Daldry. Ralph Fiennes and Kate Winslet star along with the young actor David Kross. It was the last film for producers Anthony Minghella and Sydney Pollack, who both died before it was released. Production began in Germany in September 2007, and the film opened in limited release on December 10, 2008.

  6. Kate Winslet Winslet won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in The Reader (2008). She won two Golden Globe Awards in the same year: Best Actress (Drama) for Revolutionary Road and Best Supporting Actress for The Reader. Shehas won two BAFTA Awards: Best Actressfor The Reader, and Best Supporting Actressfor Sense and Sensibility (1995). She has earned a total of six Academy Award nominations, seven Golden Globe nominations, and seven BAFTA nominations.

  7. Ralph Fiennes Ralph Fiennes was born 22 December 1962, he is an English actor and film director. He has appeared in such films as The English Patient, In Bruges, The Constant Gardener, Strange Days, The Duchess and Schindler's List. He is also well known for his portrayals of infamous villains, such as Nazi war criminal Amon Göth in Schindler's List, serial killer Francis Dolarhyde in Red Dragon, and Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter film series. Most recently, he appeared in The Reader (2008), In Bruges (2008) The Hurt Locker (2009) and as Hades in Clash of the Titans (2010). He won a Tony Award and has been nominated twice for Academy Awards.

  8. David Kross David Kross is a young German actor. He is best known internationally for his role as Michael Berg in The Reader. He had to learn to speak English to appear in the film. The film was presented in the 2009 Berlinale but did not compete. In May 2009, Kross was honored for his performance in The Reader at the 62nd Cannes Festival, winning the Chopard trophy. Kross was nominated for an European Film Award as best actor.
