11. רק סמל חזותי אחד כתוב בחוקה והוא הדגל התלת-צבעי: כחול-לבן-אדום.אחרי שהומצא ב- 1789 כסמל של צרפת המהפכנית והאימפריאלית, הדגל הצרפתי, הוא הוחלף בדגל לבן בין 1814 ל-1830 , ושוב חזר במהפיכת יולי 1830. הימין המלוכתי-נוצרי הקשוח החל להישבע אמונים לדגל התלת-צבעי אחרי שתמך בדגל הלבן. השמאל המהפכני הקיצוני, שהעדיף את הדגל האדום בשלהי המאה ה-19, חזר אף הוא לתמוך בדגל הכחול-לבן- אדום (תקופת ה-, ה"חזית העממית", ותקופת מלחמת העולם השנייה). כיום הדגל התלת צבעי הינו, לכל הדעות, הסמל המובהק של צרפת.

12. ההמנון הצרפתי (לה מרסייז,) הומצא ב- 1792 ונחשב במשך מאה שנה להמנון מהפכני ופרטיזאני. ב-1880 , ברפובליקה השלישית, ההמנון קודש כרשמי. האופוזיציה הימנית תמכה בו בתקופה שהיא קיבלה את הדגל התלת-צבעי. האופוזיציה השמאלנית תמכה בו מאוחר יותר, בתקופה האנטי פשיסטית ובמלחמת העולם השנייה.כיום, ה- מושמע בחגיגות הלאומיות ובתהלוכות הצבאיות, אך מוכרחים להודות שהוא איבד מן הפופולריות שלו. הוא נפל קורבן לאנטי-לאומניות של החברה הצרפתית אשר מגששת בחיפוש אחר סמלים חדשים. אגב, כאן נפסק הדמיון עם תולדות הדגל הצרפתי, שכן אין כיום המנון אירופי המתחרה להמנון הצרפתי. סמל התרנגול קיבל איפא חשיבות פחותה לעומת הסמלים האחרים, והיה לסמלה של הצטיינות ספורטיבית, ולעיתים לסמלה של הגבורה הצבאית בכמה אנדרטות לזכר החללים שנפלו במלחמת העולם הראשונה.(התרנגול – ציור על בול, דכאריס, 1962)

13. הפנתאון הינו הבניין היחיד המהווה סמל לאומי מובהק. הוא נבנה על ידי לואי ה- 15 והיה במקור כנסייה בשם (סאנט ז'נביאב). הוא הוסב למבנה חילוני ב-1791 והפך להיות מקום קבורתם של גדולי האומה הצרפתית. במאה ה-19, היות והוא סימל את ערכי הרפובליקה, הפנתאון היה שנוא על כוחות הימין. בין 1817 ל1830-, ובין 1851 ל-1855, הוא חזר לשמש ככנסייה ונתפס כמבנה זוטר משום שאישים מפורסמים שנויים במחלוקת היו קבורים בו (וולטר, רוסו, הוגו, מרסלאן, זולה, וכד').
