  2. What is “curriculum”? Company LOGO • early years of 20th century  the traditional concepts  “curriculum is a body of subjects or subject matter prepared by the teachers for the students to learn”  synonymous to the “course of study” and “syllabus” • Wilson  Anything and everything that teaches a lesson, planned or otherwise • Hutchins  “permanent studies” where the rule of grammar, reading, rhetoric and logic and mathematics for basic education are emphasized

Company LOGO • a progressivist it is curriculum if the written materials are actualized by the learner  curriculum is defined as the total learning experiences of the individual • Caswell and Campbell; Smith, Stanley & Shores  “curriculum as a sequence of potential experiences set up in the schools for the purpose of disciplining children and youth in group ways of thinking and acting” • Marsh and Willis  all the “experiences in the classroom which are planned and enacted by the teacher, and also learned by the students

  5. What is “syllabus”? • A syllabus is an outline of what is or was in a particular curriculum • A syllabus is an outline of a specific course prepared by the instructor. It included the topics to be covered, their order, often the required and suggested reading material, and any other relevant information • it includes assignment and exam dates and topics that will be covered during the semester

What is “a lesson plan”? • a tool of writing used as a guide in delivery of a lesson  the key goals and time-lines to be used to achieve an effective delivery of the lesson content • the instructor’s road map of what students need to learn and how it will be done effectively during the class time
