Approach • Development of rural India is imperative for inclusive and equitable growth and to unlock the huge potential of the rural population • To correct developmental imbalances and by bringing in sustainable and holistic development through multi pronged strategy so as to reach out to the most disadvantaged • Thrust of programmes to be on all round economic and social transformation in rural areas

What is Required in villages? • Decent Housing for all • Employment opportunities • Agricultural Development- self sufficiency • Health care services • Educational facilities • Drinking water and Sanitation • Electricity • Communication services • Road connectivity • Entertainment services • Social safety nets • Greening

  4. Focus Activities of the Ministry of Rural Development • Employment generation • Self employment • Skill development • Wage employment • Housing • Public infrastructure • Rural roads • Drinking water* • Watershed development • Sanitation*

PROGRAMMES • Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) • National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM)- Aajeevika • PradhanMantri Gram SadakYojana (PMGSY) • IndiraAwaasYojana (IAY) • National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) • Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) • National Rural Drinking Water Programme* (NRDWP) • Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan* (NBA) • Provision of Urban Amenities in Rural Areas (PURA)

  6. What can be the partnership between MoRD and Amrita • Mobilisation of villagers for availing full benefits of Govt. schemes. Includes- • Formation of volunteers • Training volunteers • Liaison with Govt. agencies • Be Programme Implementing Agency (PIA) for appropriate Govt. Programmes like skill development, watershed development, MGNREGA, PURA etc • Identify gaps in govt. programmes and fill up with own programmes (eg; housing, roads, water supply, sanitation, schools, recreation etc)
