  1. Self-Organization in Network Glasses Punit Boolchand, University of Cincinnati Main Campus, DMR 0456472 Aspects of glass structure bearing on global connectivity of their networks are elegantly probed by reversibility windows (RWs). We compare RWs in PxS1-x glasses (red) with PxSe1-x glasses (blue) in the top panel, and find a shift of the window to lower P content in the former wrt the latter. This is a curious result given that local structures are the same in the two systems. The window shift in P-S glasses is due to S-chain fragments completely demixing from the self-organized back-bone (SOB), while Se-chains totally coupling into that backbone in P-Se glasses. Even Tgs in that narrow window display some evidence of chemical bond strength scaling.

  2. Self-Organization in Network GlassesPunit Boolchand, University of Cincinnati Main Campus, DMR 0456472 Deassy Novita graduated with a Ph.D. degree in December 2008, and started work with Intel, Portland, Oregon in January 2009. Chad Holbrook defended his M.S. degree and started work at Wright Patterson Air Force base, Dayton, OH. Ping Chen and Jacob Watchman are going to defend their Ph.D. and M.S. Thesis in mid- August 2009. Vigna and Kapila are new students who joined the group. A new book entitled, on Intermediate Phases in Nano-Materials, Ed. by M. Micoulaut and M. Popescu was launched at the 4th ANC conf. in Constanta, Romania, June 28-July 3, 2009. Persons engaged in under-standing origin of IPs have contributed chapters to the book. Please insert an image or group of images here to illustrate your broader impacts activities. If you need more space, you may reduce the adjacent textbox. Please use lettering that is clearly visible (i.e. not too small). Please include a brief figure caption. From the left, Ping Chen (Ph.D.), Jacob Watchman (M.S.), Chad Holbrook (M.S.), Deassy Novita (Ph.D.) , Punit Boolchand (advisor), Vignarooban Kandasamy (Ph.D.) and Kapila Gunasekara (Ph.D.).Not included is Mingji Jin (M.S.), who graduated in August 2008, and is now a 2nd year Medical student In Florida.
