Challenges in R & R Provider Shortage Most studies project a shortage of up to 160,000 physicians by 2025. Reasons Include: # of people 65+ will double by 2030. 1st Year MD enrollment continues to decline. 1/3 of physicians are over 55. Specialty care is more enticing, both in pay and working hours. More people insured will eventually increase demand.
