Reviewing the Experience IPRO 358 The Smart Hat
Thank you and congratulations! • Prof. McKinney and I (Robert Babbin) acknowledge all of you for your participation and efforts. We thank all of you for a fine job, well done. It will make a difference in the construction industry in the next few years. • Let us take some time to look back at our experiences over the last few months to see what lessons we’ve learned that will contribute to enhancing our lives and our educations.
TEAMWORK • Suggestions for team building • Self organizing system versus a strong leader • How did I evidence support for others? • How did others support me? • Am I pleased/proud of my contribution?
ICEBREAKERS • Create your Own Team Building Activities Time Required: 1 hour • The group leader should present participants with this fake problem: The hour was going to be spent doing a problem solving activity, but as the group leader- you don’t know any and you don’t want to do one that the participants have already heard or tried previously. The goal- or problem- then, is to have each group of participants come up with a new problem solving activity that they’ve invented themselves. Groups should be no larger than four or five people and at the end of the hour, each group must come up and present their new problem solving activity. Aside from being a problem solving activity in and of itself, this activity also promotes creativity, communication, trust, and time management, among other things. Create your Own Team Building Activities Time Required: 1 hour • OR 2 TRUTHS AND A LIE. --- DO YOU KNOW ANY OTHERS?
TRANSDISCIPLINARITY • Did I experience cross fertilization of ideas? • Do I know more about business, CS, electronics, BIM, marketing, 3-D printing than I did at the start? • Was there any evidence of Innovation? Invention? Creativity? Did I share my specialized knowledge and training so that others learned from it? • Does learning other specialties open new thinking patterns?
If I had it to do all over • What would i do differently? • What should the class have done differently? • What should the faculty have done differently? • Was the problem too complex for the time available? • Would I take more responsibility?
Redesigning IPRO • More diverse and even balance of specialties • One short, one long, class each week. • Cliff notes or IPRO for “ dummies” illustrated booklet (16 pages or less) using past winners as examples. • Do you have any suggestions?
Have a great • SUMMER!
