Attendance has risen significantly this year compared to last. In total, around 17,000 extra hours have been gained in lesson time. This is on top of a similar rise in the previous year. • Attendance on day one is not particularly good – after discounting leavers attendance is 92% • Attendance suffers a major hit around week 7 and does not ever recover. • Attendance in the final weeks of the year drops after exams to around 67%. • Students report that the tactic of phoning within lessons has a major impact. • The variation between level 2 and 3 is as wide as the variation within level 3. There is no evidence to support that attendance targets for level 2 should be lower than level 3. The group with the worst attendance is Y2 BTEC L3 Diploma students. Key Points
