TOSCOT and the Canadian Paint and Coatings Association Airport Hilton Toronto, Ontario May 25, 2009
What We Would Like To Do • Merge TOSCOT into CPCA • Original discussions on how CPCA could assist TOSCOT with the administration of the education and training activities and events • Most recent meetings began in November 2008 • Structure and process
What it Would Look Like • Structure - TOSCOT – a committee of CPCA with same powers as current committees • Mandate – same as TOSCOT has now • Membership – individual, all those who are members now would retain their membership • Affiliations – same as currently have now
Rationale for Committee Structure • Reflect the priorities and realities of the sector • Position the sector to respond to the new chemical world order • Support a CoE concept, enhancing technical capacity • Allow members to shape government policy, regulations, legislation • Place members in direct contact with law-makers
What it Means for Current Members • Membership requirements the same • Programs • Services • Costs – suspect that current CPCA members will want it waived • Any current funds and or investments to be used solely for program upgrades and improvements • Maintain any other affiliations
CPCA Benefits • Communications • Real-time information on technical happenings and events of sector • IM and GR • Participate in sector solutions • Role of the chemist, technical personnel • Expanded training and education • On-line discussion groups, technical library, technical forums • Annual interface
The Transition • Use the current TOSCOT Board as the transition team • Consistency of program content, substance • Consistency of program delivery • Consistency of decision-making, etc.
Next Steps • Seek required approvals from respective organizations • Plan for any by-law and other constitutional changes • Draft a formal agreement • Conclude the program planning
