Mission • The Diabetes Educator Section, a multi-disciplinary professional section of the Canadian Diabetes Association, • will provide Diabetes Educators and other health care professionals with the knowledge for the prevention, • early identification and optimal management of diabetes through professional education, • accessible support and consultation, advocacy and research
History • The Canadian Diabetes Association is proud to be a leading supporter of diabetes research in Canada. • Since 1975 and the establishment of the Charles H. • Best Research Fund – named for insulin co-discoverer and Association co-founder Charles Best – the Association has awarded more than $95 million in research grants to scientists who have dedicated themselves to the fight against diabetes.
Goals • High cholesterol usually refers to high LDL (“bad”) cholesterol. • The main goal is to lower LDL-cholesterol • . Check with your health care provider to find out if you should be on medication to accomplish this. • Weight management • , healthy eating and regular physical activity will also help you reach this goal. • This pamphlet will help you make healthy choices
Statistics • There has been a 10-to-30 fold increase in American children with type 2 diabetes in the past 10 to 15 years. • Most of these children are from ethnic groups at high risk for type 2 diabetes, i.e. African, • Hispanic and Asian descent. Given that 77 per cent of new Canadians are from these populations, the rate of type 2 diabetes in this country is expected to skyrocket in coming years
Deferent Way of participation • Across the country, • the Canadian Diabetes Association is leading the fight against diabetes by helping people with diabetes live healthy lives while we work to find a cure. • We are supported in our efforts by a community-based network of donors, • volunteers, • employees, healthcare professionals, researchers and corporate partners. • Through the support of these many partners, • the Association is able to provide research support, outstanding programs, advocacy and valuable services to people living with diabetes. • Your generosity allows us to help the 9 million Canadians with diabetes or prediabetes live life to the fullest while we search for a cure
