Habitat • Raccoons live in North and South America. They live in wet lands and dry lands. They are mostly found in eastern US and Canada. Within their habitat they find homes.
Climate • Raccoons can live in many climates. Some live in areas with tropical climates which are hot all year.
Landform • They live near swamps, rivers, streams and in logs.
Behavior • Raccoons live in towns and find food in garbage cans.
Food/Prey • Their predator is fish. They are the prey of foxes, alligators, wolves, owls and hunters. Raccoons eat near water, and people used to think they cleaned their food, but they don’t.
Reproduction • Male and female raccoons need to mate. A female is pregnant for nine weeks. Mothers give birth to live young between March and April.
Physical • A raccoon’s colors and marking act as camouflage and it helps blend in with its surroundings.
Behavioral • They have very sensitive forepaws and when they get wet, they get more sensitive. Juveniles use their forepaws to get the meat.
Lifespan • Raccoons in captivity live up to thirteen years and wild raccoons live from five to eight years.
Physical Features • They have bandit masks. They have little hands with tiny fingers, andlittle black pointy noses.
