  3. General information • Area: 345.800 ha • Foundation: 1st January 1986 • Part ofthe World Heritagesince 26thJune 26th 2009 • Consistsof 3 parts: • Schleswig-HolsteinWaddenSea National Park • Hamburg WaddenSea National Park • Lower Saxon Wadden Sea National Park (our part)

The protected zones of the National parc • Restricted zone (60,7 %): the most sensitive areas; strictest rules of conservation: no disturbance of animal life, no kites, dogs on lead, no leaving of marked paths • Intermediate zone (38,8 %): strict rules of conservation, but walkers may leave marked paths • Recreation zone (0,6 %): Swimming, resting, sports allowed, but no camping, noisy events, off-road vehicles etc.

  5. Definition: WaddenSea • Consitsofwaddenground, saltmarshesandsmallislandswithbeachesandsanddunes • Most productiveecologicalsystem in theworld after therainforest • Habitat ofshells, crabs, lugworms, sealsandseagulls

The tides • Riseand fall ofthesealevel • Combined influence of gravitation caused by the moon and the rotation of the earth • ~ Sixhours per tide • Atnewmoonandfullmoon (whensun, earthandmoon form a line): spring tide(tide‘srangeatitsmaximum) ; atthemoon‘sfirst / thirdquarter (whensunandmoonareseparatedby 90 ° andthesun‘stidalforcedicreasesthemoon‘stidalforce) neaptide(tide‘srangeatitsminimum)
