  2. Setting Will, the main character in the story, starts out in a ward building or orphanage in medieval times. Then he ends up in a small cottage with Is teacher, Halt. The cottage has a chimney outside. Inside there is a living room combined with a dinning area. The kitchen is in the corner by a pine bench. There are two main rooms that lead of the main room.

  3. Characters • Will is a small 15 year old boy that is small, wiry, agile, fast, and surprisingly strong and is also mischievous. Will also wants to be a knight like he thinks his father was. • Horace is 15 and big for his age, buff, and is a natural athlete. He is a jerk and a bully, too. • Halt is somewhere in his early 30s. He is small, grim, wise, smart, tough, and strong.

  4. Plot: Conflict • At 15 Will and some other orphans have to chose a job to study and work as the profession they choose. If the craft masters or teachers don’t choose you, you get to work as a farmer. That is what Will is afraid of, he wants to really be a knight because he thinks his father was one. Then kalkaras appear, which are wolf like assassins, that are sent to kill Will’s leaders.

  5. Plot: Resolution • Will ,Halt, and his other companions defeat the Kalkaras and Will is offered a position for battle school but rejects it and stays a ranger .

  6. Your Opinion • I really liked it because I’m really into adventure novels and I also like reading about medieval times

  9. Summary • Will is an orphan who has to choose a job to study and work as he really wants battle school, but doesn’t fit the physical requirements. When choosing day comes Will is almost sent to work as a farmer, but then is accepted for a ranger position. Then Kalkaras which are stone turning monsters are sent to kill Will’s leaders, but then he and his craft master Halt along with other companions go and kill the Kalkaras. They do kill them and then Will gets offered a position for battle school but rejects it and stays a ranger.
