  1. School trip to Windmill Hill

  2. Why? • To provide the children with the opportunity to take part in ‘adventurous activities’ that they cannot experience at school. • To allow the children to challenge themselves (physically) in a safe, secure learning environment. • To develop a sense of community within Year 6.

  3. Adults attending • As well as PGL staff we obviously make sure that many of our own staff are there to support the children. • All Week • Miss Lamb • Mrs Ridgers • Mrs Hayward • Mrs Davis/Mrs Beckingham • Mr Wilson Mrs Martin, Mrs Murrell and Miss Jefferis will also be visiting us mid-week.

  4. Safety and security • The site has 1 entrance • There is always someone on duty • There is a security night guard • There is a health and safety manager on site • All staff are first aid trained • There is a doctor in the immediate vicinity in case of emergency • A special relationship with the ambulance service has been developed. • The group is allocated a group leader, who remains with the children all week.

  5. Food, glorious food • Food – high quality, good variety • Including healthy options - 2 hot meals and a cooked breakfast!!!

  6. Sleeping arrangements • Chalets – all rooms sleep a maximum of six and have en-suite facilities. • We will organise the groups. • We have been allocated the ‘Kingston and Levington chalets'.

  7. What will the children do all day? • 5 activity sessions each day. • 2 in the morning • 2 in the afternoon • 1 in the evening

  8. DAY OF DEPARTURE • We will be leaving at 9:00 am so please make sure that you arrive at school by 8:30 am so that we can depart on time. • The children should arrive at school with their red day bags packed with: • Small healthy snack to eat in the morning • Packed lunch • Small healthy snack for the afternoon • Drinks and water bottle • Kagoul or waterproof • Camera, if they have one • NO MOBILES/MP3 PLAYERS/ELECTRONIC GAMES!! • All other clothing should be packed in their case. Parents should also ensure that their child has pocket money for the first day (£2.50) in a small purse or wallet.

  9. MEDICINES • All medicines required during the week should be clearly named and handed to the First Aider, Mrs Hayward, with written instructions, before departure on the first morning. TRAVEL SICKNESS • Before leaving home on the first day, could parents please give their child (if needed) the necessary preventative travel sickness tablets. Tablets for the return journey should be handed to Mrs Hayward.

  10. POCKET MONEY • We suggest a maximum of £2.50 per day - £12.50 for the week, • £2.50 to be carried by your child in their day bag on the Monday, • The remaining £10.00 to be paid in to us on the Thursday before departure: 3rd October. • Preferably £2/£1/50p coins put in individual envelopes with your child’s name on and the days: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. • Pocket money will be handed to the children for the first time on the Tuesday morning.

  11. EMERGENCY • If you need to contact your son/daughter in an emergency during that week, please telephone the school (01342 323906) during the day and speak to Mrs Martin, Mrs Murrell or Miss Jefferis.

  12. EQUIPMENT • ALL CLOTHING AND PERSONAL PROPERTY MUST BE CLEARLY MARKED WITH CHILD’S NAME • Luggage - holdall or small case which has to be carried or wheeled by your child. • Bedding – sleeping bag/duvet with cover and bottom sheet/pillow with pillow case (if not pre-ordered from PGL) • Plastic carrier bags for dirty clothing (no bin liners please). • Pocket or card game (optional). • Reading book. • Water bottle. • Camera. • Stamps for postcards and addresses • 1 large towel and 1 small towel. • Sun lotion or sun block. • Toilet bag - soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, comb/hairbrush etc – no aerosols they set off the fire alarms! • Writing materials. • Old towel for wiping down!

  13. CLOTHING • The weather may be unpredictable, so please make sure your child has a variety of clothes which he/she can layer. In addition there are activities that the children cannot join in with unless they have a long sleeved top. The centre also stipulates that the clothing should not be too baggy. • Several long sleeved T-shirts • Several T-shirts • Pyjamas • Underclothes – a new set for each day • Socks - 6 pairs (not trainer socks) • At least 2 warm jumpers (1 preferably without hood as these get caught in the harnesses) • At least 3 pairs of full length lightweight jogging bottom type trousers e.g. cargo pants, (no jeans please) • Handkerchiefs/tissues • Waterproof trousers (optional) • At least 2 pairs of trainers for outdoor use (but not new ones!) that do up securely • 1 old pair of shoes that will get wet in the lake! (if your child has swim shoes these would be ideal) • 1 pair indoor shoes • Waterproof jacket * • Warm Hat, Gloves and Scarf • Teddy bear • Set of clothes for Disco evening • * A lightweight slip-over waterproof (such as a ‘kagoul’) is preferable to a heavy coat, which may not be suitable for all activities. Many coats are only fully waterproof for approximately 2 hours.

  14. So what will they be doing? On the Monday morning we will be visiting the Science Centre at Herstmonceux to experience some hands-on science and a tour of the Observatory. We will arrive at PGL Windmill Hill mid afternoon. • Abseiling • Aeroball - combines trampolining, volleyball and basketball skills • Archery • Canoeing • Challenge Course - Interesting obstacles and challenges mean children get close to the outdoors. • Climbing • Fencing • Giant Swing • Jacob’s Ladder • Raft building • Rifle Shooting • Sports and Team Games • Tunnel trail • Zip Wire Other team building and socialising activities will take place in the evening – including a disco on the Thursday night!

  15. Coming home • We should arrive back in school at approximately 2:30pm. • Put the kettle on!
