  1. Chas Stewart, BJ Byers, JairusSarten, Eric Strafuss Windmill Project

  2. Team Members

  3. Objective • Design and build a windmill that will generate electricity.

  4. Planning • Original design • A-Frame construction • Dual windmills • Paper cones for propellers

  5. Final Design

  6. Calculations • Given: Velocity of air = 10.5 m/s Length from fan = 0.1016 m Area = .203 m2 ρ of air = 1.2 kg/m3 • KEtheoretical = 1/2mv2 = 1/2ρALv2 = (.5)(1.2)(.203)(.1016)(10.5) = 1.3622 J

  7. Costs • Budget: $40 • Costs: • Magnets – $6 • Wire – $7 • Spare wood – $4 • Cup – $2 Total Cost: $19

  8. Conclusions • Success of project • Worked as team • Generated enough current to light bulb • Problems faced • Construction problems • Generator problems • Rotation must be perpendicular • Coil must be strong enough to create current • Principles learned • Electricity • Magnetism
