Whatisthepottery? • Pottery is the old art of creating decorative, practical or artistic objects of all types from soft clay modeling. At first their main objective was to create objects and containers able to contain liquids. • Clay modeling is performed with hands on a rotating basis doing clay moves up and out. Nowadayswith the use of the lathe, potters can create from the clay rounds and symmetrical objects such as plates.
Pottery in Talavera de la Reina. • Of Muslim origin, pottery of Talavera de la Reina had an industrial weight obtained from the sixteenth century and it was one of the most important in Spain and around the world, writers like Cervantes and Lope de Vega cite in their texts the famous Talavera´s pottery. • In the nineteenth century, with the destruction of their potteries and factories by the French army, a long period of decline began, but in 1908, Ruiz de Luna recovered in his new plant forms and themes of the old Renaissance and Baroque Talavera´sproduction with a quality seal.
Ruiz de Luna´slife. • Juan Ruiz de Luna Rojas was born in 1863, in Toledo. Very Young he began working in the family business, then he moved to Talavera de la Reina to help their brothers who were painters. • In 1908 Juan Ruiz de Luna founded the Artistic Ceramics Factory “NuestraSeñora del Prado”, he created the famous Talavera pottery in the sixteenth and seventeenth.Nowadaysin Talavera thereisa museumwithhisname. He is the maximum agent of Talavera´s pottery around the world.
Talavera´sPotteryaroundtheworld. • Talavera´s pottery is famous through the world, particularly in the countries near to Spain like Portugal and France. During the 16th and 17th centuries Talavera´s pottery has been very important in many aspects. It was included by King Philip II in the monastery of El Escorial and is one of the maximun representations Spanish pottery in the world. We must highlight the pieces at the Museum of Ceramics Ruiz de Luna in Talavera de la Reina.
